I got my wish: Blut Aus Nord to release new album in April

Well, that was fast.

Was it just last week (in my 2010 short lists) that I was pining for new music by avant-garde French black metallers Blut Aus Nord? It must be my lucky year then, because BAN will be releasing their new full-length album “777 -Sect(s)” in April.

According to Blabbermouth, “777” will be released on April 19 in the U.S. on Debemur Morti Productions.  So mark your calendars.

This is a quick turnaround; just two years ago, BAN released the eerily beautiful “Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars,” which was my pick for best album of ’09. If we were talking about any other band, I’d write something like, “I wonder how they will top their last album?” … but since it’s Blut Aus Nord, I know they won’t even try.

This is a band that follows its own muse to wherever the hell it wants to go, so I wouldn’t be surprised if “777” sounds absolutely nothing like “Memoria Vesusta II.” That’s part of the excitement about a new BAN disc: You may love it or hate it, but you’re guaranteed to never be bored.

To pique your interest, here’s “The Meditant” from “Memoria Vetusta II.” Enjoy.
