Great post/review. I had tix for the show in Conn. this past weekend but ended up sick so I missed the show. Too bad because I heard Steele was amazing, and Scott Warren, in for Josh, did well too.
I am a late bloomer to TON and like yourself, can’t wait to see what they pull out of the rabbit’s hat next.

Blaming Spinal Tap for ridiculing metal is like blaming banana skins for making people that fall over look funny or custard pies for… well you got it. Blokes looking like well coiffeured ladies in tight spandex, playing bombastic music about the battle between the urchins and the dwarves or how well they get on with the devil ARE funny and there’s no way around that. The pretentious, onanistic and pointless guitar solos, the anal emphasis on technique, the lyrics normally written by the only member of the band who managed to work his way through the Lord of the Rings, the very idea that such childish musical antics could actually appear to be threatening or scary to anyone who is past the mental age of twelve and the generally staggering teenage naivety behind the whole genre are sweet in a way but also VERY VERY FUNNY.
